Gary and Hannah @ g&h CritCareEcho

The g&h CritCareEcho Team

Dr Gary Lau

Gary grew up to Toronto, Canada and spent his formative years conforming to cultural stereotypes, which explains why he was accused of ‘echo trophy collecting’ by his boss. At one time he held all the possible TOE accreditations: BSE, EACTA, and the NBE Advanced PTEeXAM® Board Certification.

He is a cardiothoracic anaesthetist and intensivist and has been TOE and TTE trained at both Glenfield in Leicester and St Mike’s in Toronto. He is a BSE accredited FUSIC® supervisor, a BSE TOE supervisor and accreditation assessor, EACTA supervisor, and EDEC (ESICM) supervisor. His educational roles in Leicester include being the Echo Education Lead and the ICU Echo Fellowship Director.

Hannah Conway

With over two decades of dedicated service in the NHS, Hannah is an ACCP specialising in echocardiography. Born and raised in Birmingham, she started out in heart-lung transplantation, where she achieved BSE Level 2 TTE accreditation and high level TOE.

In 2015, Hannah brought her expertise to Leicester, where she met Gary and together and ‘g&h’ was formed. She quickly became a pivotal figure in echocardiography education, particularly in remote mentoring.

Hannah is a BSE accredited FUSIC® and FAMUS Supervisor, BSE Level 1 and fTOE Examiner and notably, is the National FUSIC® Heart Lead

Dr Rachel Wong

Rachel is a Consultant at the Royal Papworth Hospital, specialising in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia, Intensive Care, and ECMO. Rachel holds Level 2 accreditation in EACVI TOE and serves as a mentor for FUSIC and FAMUS across all existing modules.

When not instructing in Echocardiography or Ultrasound, Rachel dedicates her time to training and developing roles allied to medicine, including Clinical Scientists and Advanced Practitioners in Critical Care.
