About g&h CritCareEcho

g&h CritCareEcho was set up in 2019, as our own little project to improve the quality of ultrasound education in the Midlands. Five years on, we are now one of the largest UK trainers of Point-of-Care Ultrasound, training over 600 candidates. Our goal is to provide teaching in smaller groups by expert faculty to promote a more engaging learning environment.

We were brought together nearly a decade ago by our enthusiasm for peri-operative and critical care echo and ultrasound. Whilst our first passion is ultrasound, we also provide training in Basic and Cardiac Advanced Life Support and we organise and host the Midland’s FFICM Exam Prep Course in collaboration with PRORVnet.

One of our USPs is that we can bring our courses to you and can provide remote mentoring. We have held several successful ‘Outreach’ courses. Please explore our website for more details on this.

I hope you enjoy browsing all of the educational courses we have to offer!

The g&h CritCareEcho Team

Hannah Conway

Hannah was born and raised in Birmingham and has had a remarkable and varied job history before entering into healthcare. She was trained in Birmingham as an Operating Department Practitioner and then as a Donor Management Practitioner where she achieved her BSE Level 2 TTE accreditation as well as performing high level TOE.

She has brought her bubbly personality and her specialist echocardiography skills and experience to Leicester as an Advanced Critical Care Practitioner in 2015. During this time, she has become a key Echo Educator in the department and currently holds BSE Level 1 TTE accreditation and is a BSE Examiner.

She is a BSE accredited FUSIC Supervisor and sits on the ICS FUSIC committee. In addition, she lectures on echo courses and conferences nationally and internationally.

Gary Lau

Gary grew up to Toronto, Canada and spent his formative years conforming to cultural stereotypes, which explains why he was accused of ‘echo trophy collecting’ by his boss. At one time he held all the possible TOE accreditations: BSE, EACTA, and the NBE Advanced PTEeXAM® Board Certification.

He is a cardiothoracic anaesthetist and intensivist and has been TOE and TTE trained at both Glenfield in Leicester and St Mike’s in Toronto. He is a BSE accredited FICE supervisor, a BSE TOE supervisor and accreditation assessor, EACTA supervisor, and EDEC (ESICM) supervisor.

His educational roles in Leicester include being the Echo Education Lead and the ICU Echo Fellowship Director.
