MRCP Exam Courses

The Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) is a respected qualification that testifies to the competence and understanding of a practising doctor in the UK. Those who wish to apply to speciality training in Internal Medicine and its related fields are required to complete MRCP prior to starting ST training.

What are the MRCP Exams?

The MRCP exams are a series of three evaluations designed to test a doctor’s knowledge, skills, and behaviour in common and important clinical scenarios. The exams, recognised internationally, serve as a benchmark of excellence, thus raising the standards of medical practice.

There are 3 exams within the MRCP qualification:

  • MRCP Part 1 Written – Two single best answer multiple choice papers focusing on basic sciences and fundamentals of clincal theory.
  • MRCP Part 2 Written – Two single best answer multiple choice papers focusing on the practical application of clinical medicine.
  • MRCP Part 2 PACES – An OSCE-style examination which tests your ability to examine, diagnose, and treat medical patients.

Do I need to go on an MRCP Course?

MRCP courses are not mandatory, but they can provide invaluable support in your preparation for the exams. The third exam, MRCP PACES, is a practical assessment and often requires a course for the hands-on experience it provides.

Even for the part 1 and 2 exams, attending a course could be beneficial if you learn better from interactive sources rather than question banks.

What will I learn in an MRCP PACES Course?

In an MRCP PACES course, you’ll be exposed to various clinical conditions, including rare ones you may not encounter in your everyday practice.

These courses often include patient encounters, allowing you to practice your examination, diagnostic, and communication skills. You’ll also receive feedback on your performance, helping you fine-tune your approach.

How Much Does An Mrcp Course Cost?

The cost of MRCP courses can vary, depending on the specific course and its length. Generally, you can expect to pay around £200-600 for part 1 and 2 courses and £600-2000 for PACES courses.

While this is a significant investment, the benefit of increased confidence and improved exam performance can truly make it worthwhile!
