About British Medical Courses

At British Medical Courses, we’re working toward a future where every medical graduate, NHS doctor, nurse, paramedic, and non-trainee clinician—particularly those in Emergency Medicine and across the wider NHS—has the skills, confidence, and support they need to excel and deliver exceptional patient care.

International Medical Graduates (IMGs) and non-trainee doctors form the backbone of the UK’s healthcare system. The General Medical Council (GMC) reported that in 2022 alone, over 42% of new additions to the UK medical register were IMGs. Today, more than a third of all licensed UK doctors trained overseas, with the proportion even higher in Emergency Medicine. These clinicians are filling critical gaps in an overstretched system, yet their journey is often more challenging than it should be.

Too many face barriers such as:

  • Limited access to structured training and supervision
  • Minimal guidance on local clinical protocols
  • No dedicated funding for professional development
  • Exclusion from formal career progression pathways

Imagine arriving in a new country, stepping into a high-pressure emergency department, and being expected to perform at the same level as colleagues who’ve had years of local training and structured support. For many IMGs and non-trainees, this is reality. Trainees benefit from rotations, supervisors, and protected teaching time—while their peers are left to self-learn, prepare for exams alone, and adapt without adequate institutional backing. This approach isn’t sustainable, and it isn’t fair.

Our Mission

We exist to change that.

Our mission is to bridge the gap in training, development, and opportunity for NHS clinicians—particularly IMGs and non-trainee doctors in Emergency Medicine. We deliver structured, practical, high-quality education designed by clinicians who’ve walked the same path.

Our courses focus on the core emergency competencies that every clinician needs, including:

  • Rapid assessment and management of acutely unwell patients
  • Interpretation of ECGs, X-rays, ABGs, and ultrasounds
  • Practical knowledge across specialties such as ENT, ophthalmology, gynecology, psychiatry, toxicology, trauma, pediatrics, orthopedics, and acute medicine
  • Effective management of pre-alert calls, trauma team activations, and minor injuries

We want every IMG and non-trainee doctor to step into any emergency department in the UK with confidence, competence, and clarity.
