🏥 Course Overview
This highly interactive workshop focuses on mastering ultrasound-guided peripheral venous cannulation to improve first-pass success in challenging patients. Participants receive expert supervision while practising needle guidance and vessel visualisation using high-fidelity ultrasound phantoms and manikins.
Note: This course is not a Central Venous Catheter (CVC) course. It is exclusively focused on ultrasound-guided peripheral intravenous (IV) line placement and related practical skills.
🎯 Learning Objectives
- Understand the principles of ultrasound for vascular access and machine optimisation.
- Differentiate veins from arteries and optimise image orientation.
- Apply in-plane and out-of-plane needle guidance techniques.
- Manage difficult IV access in patients with small, deep or collapsed veins.
- Recognise and avoid complications (arterial puncture, nerve injury).
📘 Course Format
- Brief orientation and equipment overview
- Demonstration of ultrasound-guided IV technique
- Supervised practice on ultrasound phantoms & live models
