NHS Consultant Interview Course

ISC Medical's NHS Consultant Interview Course is a highly practical, one-day course designed specifically for doctors preparing for consultant interviews across all medical and surgical specialties. Limited to just six candidates per session to ensure personalised attention, the course combines expert teaching from experienced NHS consultants with extensive interview practice and realistic mock interviews with detailed individual feedback.

The course covers all key topics commonly assessed at NHS consultant interviews, including application and achievements, leadership and management, clinical governance, ethics and professionalism, communication skills, and clinical scenarios. Rather than relying on lectures or memorised answers, the course helps you understand the underlying principles behind high-scoring responses so you can adapt them authentically to your own experience and communication style.

Throughout the day, you will develop practical interview skills including structuring and personalising answers, talking confidently about your CV and achievements, understanding what interview panels are really asking, demonstrating consultant-level leadership and judgement, and discussing NHS issues effectively. The interactive format includes group discussions, individual practice with feedback, and a culminating formal mock consultant interview in a realistic setting.

The course runs from 09:30–17:45 (sometimes extending to 18:00 depending on participant engagement) and covers: key interview skills and answer structure; questions about your background, motivation and personal qualities; interpersonal and management skills; mock interviews with detailed feedback; NHS hot topics; and body language and pre-interview visits.

Candidates can attend at any stage of their preparation—several months ahead or just days before their interview. Minimal pre-course work is required: you'll be asked to prepare a three-minute answer to a common opening question, with full guidance provided upon booking.
