About this course
Training the Trainers (TtT) is a comprehensive clinical education course designed for surgeons, dentists, and allied health professionals involved in delivering surgical and dental training. It combines flexible online learning with hands-on, personalised support and a full day of face-to-face training to build your confidence and skills as an educator.
The course is structured in three modules:
- Module One: Six interactive online sessions covering the foundations of clinical education (approximately 4 hours)
- 1-2-1 Virtual Session: A 30-minute personalised meeting with faculty 1-2 weeks before the in-person day to prepare you for practice delivery
- Module Two: A full day of face-to-face, hands-on training with peer-to-peer learning and expert feedback in a supportive environment
- Module Three: Follow-up online sessions to consolidate your learning and prepare for ongoing teaching roles (approximately 3 hours)
The course covers essential educator competencies including recognising the trainer's professional responsibilities, applying adult educational theory, identifying teaching opportunities and challenges, delivering and receiving effective feedback, using structured methods to teach clinical skills, and adapting your teaching for both face-to-face and virtual environments. By completing this course, you will develop practical strategies to navigate the unique demands of being both a clinician and educator, equipping you to mentor and instruct effectively in real-world clinical settings.
This course is worth 12 CPD points (6 points for online learning and 6 for the face-to-face day) and counts as 4 credits towards the PGCert in Surgery. RCS England members, fellows, and affiliates receive a 40% discount on the standard price.
