Dealing with Difficult People Course for Doctors, Nurses and Other Healthcare Professionals

ISC Medical's one-day 'Dealing with Difficult People' course is designed for doctors, nurses and all other healthcare professionals who wish to improve the way they manage their relationships with difficult colleagues. The course is delivered virtually on Zoom and runs from 9:30am to 5:00pm (UK time) on available dates throughout 2026.

Through a series of discussions and interactive exercises, participants will learn what motivates people and what makes them difficult, how to use evidence-based frameworks and models to have difficult conversations, the different types of conflict and how to prevent and manage them, how to build healthy assertiveness in communication style including saying 'no' effectively and managing critique, and the importance of language and how to maximise questioning and listening skills.

The course is structured in five key modules: Introduction to Difficult People (exploring what makes people difficult and motivational styles); Having Courageous Conversations (4-stage framework for difficult conversations); Understanding and Managing Conflict (types of conflict and resolution approaches); Different Behaviours in Conflict (communication styles and assertiveness principles); and Putting It All Into Practice (applying skills to real-life scenarios).

Small group sizes are maintained at a maximum of 15 participants to enable interesting discussions and allow each candidate to contribute on topics of personal interest. The course uses world-recognised theories and techniques, ensuring benefit from current research in communication. It is written and delivered by established and experienced trainers with wide-ranging experience in coaching and communication training within the NHS and healthcare environment.
