This one-day POCUS course in Manchester gives doctors and acute-care clinicians supervised, hands-on practice in the core emergency ultrasound scans: the abdominal aorta, free fluid, focused echocardiography and lung ultrasound. Run by Kung Medics in Levenshulme, it teaches you to optimise images, recognise key abnormalities and decide when a finding should change management. No previous scanning experience is needed.
The course runs as a full day from 9:00am to 5:00pm and moves from machine basics to integrated clinical scanning. Teaching is kept short so that most of the day is hands-on practice with an instructor beside you. The day starts with ultrasound physics, probe handling, orientation and image optimisation, then works through the core emergency applications in small groups: the abdominal aorta, focused assessment for free fluid, focused echocardiography, and lung ultrasound. Where included, ultrasound-guided peripheral vascular access is practised on simulation equipment. The day finishes by bringing the scans together around the acutely unwell patient, learning to choose which views to perform, judge image adequacy, interpret findings in context and recognise when formal imaging or senior review is needed.
This course suits complete beginners and clinicians who have been taught ultrasound before but still hesitate to pick up the probe on shift. You leave with a structured, repeatable scanning routine and a CPD-accredited certificate. The course is relevant to MRCEM and FRCEM preparation and is suitable for emergency medicine doctors, acute medicine doctors, critical care and anaesthetic trainees, foundation doctors, core and specialty trainees, GPs in urgent care, international medical graduates and other healthcare professionals working in or preparing to work in emergency and acute-care settings.
