FRCEM Courses & Articles for UK Doctors

The FRCEM is awarded after passing the FRCEM SBA (180 questions across two 2-hour papers on the same day via computer-based testing) and the FRCEM OSCE (16 active stations of 8 minutes assessing consultant-level clinical, communication, and leadership skills in London).

No, the standalone FRCEM Critical Appraisal and QIP written exams were formally withdrawn in August 2021. QIP competencies are now assessed via portfolio evidence for UK trainees, while Critical Appraisal is integrated as a Clinical Topic Review evaluated through oral discussion during the fellowship pathway.

Many candidates use a question bank for the SBA and add a practical course for the OSCE, where practising consultant-level communication, management, and clinical scenarios under exam constraints adds significant value.
