The MRCGP AKT is a computer-based, multiple-choice examination designed to assess clinical knowledge relevant to day-to-day general practice. From October 2025, the exam comprises 160 questions divided into three sections: 80% clinical knowledge, 10% evidence-based practice, and 10% primary care organisation and management. The exam duration is 2 hours 40 minutes. It is typically taken during ST2 (Specialty Training Year 2) of GP training. Between 4–6 attempts are allowed depending on when you entered GP training.
