Visit Course →MRCGP (AKT) is the Applied Knowledge Test component of the Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners exam—a key assessment for doctors training to become General Practitioners in the UK.
The MRCGP AKT is a computer-based, multiple-choice examination designed to assess clinical knowledge relevant to day-to-day general practice. From October 2025, the exam comprises 160 questions divided into three sections: 80% clinical knowledge, 10% evidence-based practice, and 10% primary care organisation and management. The exam duration is 2 hours 40 minutes. It is typically taken during ST2 (Specialty Training Year 2) of GP training. Between 4–6 attempts are allowed depending on when you entered GP training.
