About this course
Develop the practical skills and confidence required to use ultrasound for peripheral intravenous cannulation, particularly in patients with difficult vascular access. The Ultrasound-Guided Cannulation Course by Kung Medics is a focused, hands-on training programme designed for doctors and healthcare professionals who want to improve their ability to identify suitable peripheral veins, visualise the needle and successfully obtain intravenous access using real-time ultrasound guidance. The course is especially useful for clinicians who are comfortable with standard cannulation but find difficult-access patients challenging.
This is a half-day, small-group, hands-on practical course delivered in Manchester. Candidates work through a structured approach to ultrasound-guided cannulation, including probe orientation, vessel assessment, needle visualisation, cannula selection, and the complete cannulation technique. The course emphasises repeated, supervised practice with simulation models rather than observation alone.
Learning outcomes include identifying suitable peripheral veins using ultrasound, differentiating veins from arteries, optimising ultrasound images, selecting appropriate vessels and cannulas, using in-plane and out-of-plane techniques, maintaining awareness of the needle tip, and recognising common complications. The course is particularly relevant for clinicians encountering difficult intravenous access due to obesity, chronic illness, previous chemotherapy, poorly visible veins, or other challenging vascular conditions.
Candidates benefit from experienced clinical instructors, vascular access simulation models, small-group teaching, immediate feedback, and a supportive learning environment. The course is structured for a simple, reproducible technique that candidates can continue refining under appropriate clinical supervision. Completion does not by itself certify independent clinical competence and must be followed by workplace supervision and competency assessment.
