About this course
This one-day careers event is aimed at Foundation Trainees, Junior Clinical Fellows and Medical Students contemplating a career in Anaesthesia or seeking to find out more about the specialty. Sponsored by the Mersey School of Anaesthesia, the day provides a comprehensive overview of the breadth and depth of an Anaesthetist's role in modern healthcare, with exposure to the full scope of the specialty beyond its common misconceptions.
The programme combines interactive seminars with hands-on practical workshops. Seminar topics cover an overview of the Anaesthetist's role, personal testimonies from Anaesthetic Trainees at Core and Specialist level, SAS Anaesthetists and Consultant Anaesthetists, details of the training programme and examination structure, information specific to training in the Mersey region, advice on applying for Core Training with interview insights, tips for the MSRA Exam, and subspecialties including Paediatric Anaesthesia, Pain Medicine, Intensive Care Medicine, Obstetric Anaesthesia and Regional Anaesthesia.
Practical workshops focus on anaesthetic practical skills and interview preparation, providing hands-on experience with key practical techniques commonly performed by Anaesthetists. Q&A sessions with the Faculty of Consultants, SAS Anaesthetists and Anaesthetic Trainees are available throughout the day to answer any questions.
The event is limited to 48 places and is currently full with a waiting list. The course is organised by Dr Carol Kenyon (Consultant Anaesthetist, Liverpool Women's Hospital), Dr Nicole Robin (Consultant Anaesthetist, Countess of Chester Hospital) and Dr Kristianne Jones (Anaesthetics ST4 Trainee, Mersey Deanery). Previous attendees have praised the event as informative, well-pitched, and providing valuable insight into the recruitment process and selection criteria.
