About this course
This 1-day in-person Focused Ultrasound for Intensive Care (FUSIC) course covers all the knowledge and practical skills needed to complete training for your FUSIC Heart and FUSIC Lung accreditation. The course is fully approved by the Intensive Care Society (ICS) — attendance on an approved course or completion of online training is mandatory for sign-off by the ICS.
The combined FUSIC Heart + FUSIC Lung course provides lectures by experienced FUSIC trainers and practical scanning sessions to develop your intensive care ultrasound skills. The morning focuses on FUSIC Heart with dedicated lectures and practical sessions covering basic ultrasound physics, machine controls, basic views and image optimisation, the FUSIC Heart background, scanning the heart from the PLAX, PSAX, A4C and subcostal windows, recognition of heart anatomy and pathology, IVC and pericardial fluid assessment. The afternoon includes a FUSIC Lung lecture followed by practical teaching on how to perform a point-of-care lung ultrasound examination and recognise pulmonary pathology. The course finishes with a quiz to test your knowledge.
Key features of the course include:
• 3.5 hours of practical scanning time across the day
• Highly skilled FUSIC ultrasound practitioners with extensive teaching experience
• Healthy volunteers to scan and state-of-the-art simulators with pathologies, including the HeartWorks® simulator — considered the most in-depth and realistic simulation in cardiac anatomy and echocardiography available
• A range of ultrasound machines, including the latest hand-held devices, phantoms and simulators
• Centrally located training facility near London Bridge
You can apply for 6 CPD points for this course.
