What does the MSRA cover and how is it structured?
The MSRA is a 170-minute computer-based exam consisting of two papers: the Professional Dilemmas paper (situational judgement test, 50 questions, 95 minutes) and the Clinical Problem Solving paper (97 clinical questions, 75 minutes). No negative marking is applied.
Which specialties use the MSRA?
The MSRA is used in specialty selection for General Practice, Core Psychiatry, Core Surgical Training, Clinical Radiology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Anaesthetics, Neurosurgery, Nuclear Medicine, and ACCS Emergency Medicine. It is no longer used for Paediatrics recruitment.
How are sittings managed during the recruitment cycle?
Due to high application volumes, the MSRA is delivered across two split testing windows: a January sitting open to all specialties, and a February sitting reserved exclusively for Core Psychiatry and General Practice applicants.
