About this course
GP ST+: Maximise Your GP Training is a comprehensive one-day course designed to help doctors starting GP specialty training (ST1–ST3) understand what to expect and get the most out of their three-year rotation. Led by Dr Mahibur Rahman, a portfolio GP and Consultant in Medical Education who has taught over 62,000 delegates since 2005, the course provides practical, evidence-based guidance on every aspect of GP training.
The course covers the full MRCGP pathway: Work Place Based Assessment (WPBA) and e-portfolio requirements, the Applied Knowledge Test (AKT), and the Simulated Consultation Assessment (SCA). You will learn exam formats, sample questions and cases, common reasons for failure, and proven strategies to pass first time. Beyond exams, the course explores important practical topics including GP contracts, working weeks, salaries, expenses you can claim as a registrar, medicolegal issues, and paperwork to complete before and during training. The course also covers courses and qualifications worth pursuing during training, the increasingly popular portfolio-GP model, and how to develop specialist interests (GPSI/GPwSI).
The on-demand version comprises a 6.5+ hour video recording of the live 2025 course, plus an 80+ page PDF course booklet. You can subscribe for 1–12 months of access, making it ideal for doctors who want to study at their own pace. The content is structured around a full-day programme (9:30am–5:30pm) covering paperwork and pay, medicolegal issues, courses to pursue, MRCGP assessments, portfolio career development, and tips for succeeding as a trainee. Feedback from previous attendees consistently praises the course for its breadth, practical wisdom, clarity of explanation, and the confidence it builds before starting training.
This course is particularly valuable for those starting training soon or already in ST1, as it gives a "bird's-eye view" of how GP training fits together and allows you to plan strategically across all three years.
