About this course
This one-day live interview skills course is designed for doctors preparing for Specialty Training (ST) and registrar interview posts across medicine and surgery. Run on the Zoom platform, it combines interactive discussions, small-group workshops, and practical interview practice to help you develop clear answer structures, confident communication, and strong clinical reasoning.
You will learn how to structure answers clearly to avoid waffling, personalise responses with authentic examples from your experience, showcase your strengths across clinical, ethical, and leadership scenarios, and build rapport with interviewers. The course covers essential ST interview topics including background and motivation, generic and academic skills, research and evidence-based medicine, clinical governance, difficult colleagues and ethical issues, NHS reforms, and body language.
The teaching is delivered by experienced consultants and communication specialists who have coached hundreds of doctors one-to-one across all specialties and grades. To ensure high-quality personalised attention, each course is limited to a maximum of 12 participants, allowing you to raise individual concerns in depth and receive tailored feedback. You will practise with real questions drawn from previous ST interviews, and are encouraged to bring your own particular questions to be integrated into the day's teaching.
The course runs from 09:15 registration through to 17:45, with a lunch break at 13:00. Prior to the course, participants are required to think about answers to a range of common interview questions. Upon completion, you receive free unlimited support for your interview preparation.
