About this course
The SMARRT Course (Sedation & Management of Adverse Reactions & Rapid Tranquillisation) is a focused, high-fidelity simulation day designed for emergency medicine clinicians. Delivered by MHS Health Solutions, an organisation specialising in point-of-care ultrasound and procedural sedation training, the course combines immersive team-based scenarios with hands-on practice to build confidence and clinical competence.
The day covers adult procedural sedation, ketamine sedation in children, rapid tranquillisation, special case scenarios, rescue airway strategies and a practical drugs workshop. Teaching is grounded in extensive ED experience, delivered by experienced consultant and associate specialist emergency medicine faculty who focus on clear explanations, supportive coaching and skills that translate directly to clinical practice.
The course emphasises high-fidelity simulation, crisis management, human factors and structured debriefing. Small-group learning and face-to-face tuition allow participants to develop team-based scenario management skills in a realistic environment. Recent feedback highlights the quality of teaching, clinical relevance and the confidence gained from hands-on practice.
