About this course
This full-day course is aimed at clinicians who already have basic obstetrics and gynaecology scanning experience, whether through Bromley Emergency's introductory courses or personal practice. The course dives deeper into scanning during different stages of pregnancy and identifying obstetric and gynaecological pathologies, providing hands-on training with both simulators and live models.
The course covers gynaecological assessment of the pelvic structures using both transabdominal (TA) and transvaginal (TV) scanning techniques, with TV scanning practised on manikins. Participants will learn to recognise common gynaecological pathologies, assess early pregnancy with ultrasound, and evaluate late pregnancy including lie, presentation, fetal heart, multiple pregnancy, placental position, liquor volume, and biometrics.
The teaching format combines pre-course preparation videos, lectures on pregnancy and gynaecological pathology, and practical scanning sessions. Practical elements include TA scanning on live models (including pregnant volunteers) and simulators, and TV scanning using manikins and simulators. The course is run by Bromley Emergency Courses, which has 21 years of experience teaching point-of-care ultrasound (PoCUS) courses to clinicians and has taught over 23,000 participants, with an average Google review score of 4.9 out of 5.
