Intermediate skills in laparoscopic surgery (Inter Lap)

Intermediate Skills in Laparoscopic Surgery (Inter Lap) is a two-day, hands-on intensive course designed to increase your skills in laparoscopic surgery, including suturing and knot tying. Delivered by experienced faculty at the Bjorn Saven Centre in London or at regional centres across the UK, this course combines practical workshop sessions with interactive lectures, video presentations, demonstrations and discussions.

Throughout the course, you will gain numerous opportunities to learn more advanced techniques in laparoscopic surgery. Topics covered include ergonomics, holding and manipulating tissue, knotting, Nissen fundoplication, laparoscopic feeding gastrostomy, laparoscopic pyloroplasty, laparoscopic anastomosis, and use of harmonic scalpel and ultrasonic dissectors.

By the end of this course, you will be able to outline principles of ergonomic port placement and surgeon positioning, demonstrate a range of advanced suturing and knot tying techniques, perform advanced laparoscopic surgery procedures including closure of a hiatus hernia and secure fundoplication on a model, and demonstrate effective use of laparoscopic equipment.

The course is suitable for ST3-5 and SAS grades. If you lack core skills in laparoscopic surgery, the RCS also runs a Core Skills in Laparoscopic Surgery Course. Members receive a 10% discount on Inter Lap courses held at the Bjorn Saven Centre. ALSGBI members who attend can claim a free enrolment on one of the Professional Passport courses. You will be awarded 4 credits toward the Postgraduate Certificate in Surgery upon booking this course.
