FRCS course prices vary widely from £500 to £3,000 depending on specialty, duration, and format. Section 2 (viva/OSCE) preparation courses tend to cost more due to lower student-to-examiner ratios and practical components. In-person courses are generally more expensive than online options.

Most candidates self-study for Section 1 (written) using question banks and textbooks. Section 2 (viva/clinical) is where courses add the most value — practising with experienced examiners and getting feedback on communication and clinical reasoning is hard to replicate solo.
