About this course
An interactive, online, comprehensive, and intensive course for consultants and career grade anaesthetists who want to understand, identify and assess frailty in older adults, thereby integrating frailty assessment into perioperative decision-making for older surgical patients.
This practical course combines evidence-based content with real-world applicability rather than research focus. Topics covered include frailty definition and assessment, prehabilitation strategies, anaesthetic considerations for older patients, perioperative polypharmacy, cognitive frailty and delirium, anaesthetic management of fractured neck of femur, and post-operative care optimisation for older patients. The course is pitched at a level suitable for consultants, SAS anaesthetists, residents and specialty doctors.
The day features interactive lectures followed by case scenarios, faculty and audience discussion, and structured Q&A sessions. You will have the opportunity to interact directly with speakers via the chat facility. By the end of the course, participants will understand frailty assessment in the perioperative context, explore prehabilitation strategies, recognise the challenges of perioperative polypharmacy, understand cognitive frailty and delirium management, discuss anaesthetic management plans for specific conditions, and optimise post-operative care for older adults with frailty.
What's included: live online access via Teams or Webex, 90 days of on-demand access to the recorded course with unlimited playback, CPD certificate of attendance with 6 CPD points, and the opportunity to interact and ask questions directly to the faculty throughout the day.
