The Intelligent PACES story is straightforward yet meaningful. Two close friends, driven by a passion for teaching, a desire to embrace new challenges, and a commitment to improving existing methods, founded Intelligent PACES.
The course began as an initiative to revolutionise the way PACES courses were conducted. They identified registrars and consultants with exceptional teaching abilities and enthusiasm (with extensive experience teaching on various PACES courses) who maintained a deep appreciation for clinical skills in general medicine. Teaching PACES on the wards is challenging—not only due to time constraints but also because patients in exams often have different profiles than typical ward patients, making ward-based teaching distinct.
Intelligent PACES aimed to create a course that was easy to schedule even on busy rotations, yet comprehensive enough to cover all necessary teaching in a single day.
Their goal was to design a day where candidates could be rigorously tested, develop the ability to think quickly, perform examinations under time pressure, and leave feeling confident in their readiness for the exam.
To achieve this, they emphasised maintaining a strict number of candidates at each bedside, sought out the best clinical educators available, and curated outstanding PACES cases.
The course has grown significantly, and they remain humbled by the positive feedback from their trainees, many of whom have returned to assist with teaching. The journey continues, and they remain passionate about medicine, teaching, and the PACES process.
