This informal day at the College is designed to guide newly appointed consultants, or those on the brink of appointment, through the major issues they are likely to face in the initial years following their appointment.

- Newly appointed consultants
- Senior trainees nearing CCT completion
- Individuals returning from a period of absence
Programme Highlights
The course aims to provide introductory guidance for those stepping into consultant posts. Topics covered include an introduction to the consultant contract, effective time management, and job planning.
Course Structure
The day will be conducted under Chatham House Rules*, facilitating open discussion and allowing participants to share experiences and ask questions. The programme will also address areas typically not covered in postgraduate or specialty training.

- Identify the principal components of the consultant contract
- Describe the principles applied to the job planning process
- Define Realistic medicine and provide examples of its application in medical practice
- List factors to consider in effective time management
- Differentiate between training and consultant grades
