The IMPACT course is a two-day programme introducing the principles and practice of acute medical care, encompassing essential knowledge, skills, understanding, and attitudes. It equips trainee doctors to assess and treat acutely unwell patients and, where appropriate, provides guidance on when to seek additional help. The course includes key point presentations, workshops, hands-on skills stations, and instruction on managing critically ill patients, delivered by experienced instructors in a supportive environment.
Target Audience
IMPACT is aimed at IMT 1/2/3 level trainees in Acute Medicine, General Internal Medicine, and Acute Care Common Stem (ACCS) programmes. Foundation doctors planning a career in any of these specialties can also undertake the course after completing 8 months in acute medical specialties during their FY2 year. However, please note that the standard of teaching is pitched at the IMT 1/2/3 level. Participants should have successfully completed an Advanced Life Support (ALS) course before attending the IMPACT course.
