This course is designed for all clinicians who want to learn how to use point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) to assess critically ill and trauma patients. The course covers the following topics:
- Anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular, respiratory, and abdominal systems
- Basic ultrasound principles
- How to perform a focused POCUS exam
- Interpretation of POCUS images
- Clinical applications of POCUS
The course is delivered by experts from emergency medicine, acute medicine, and intensive care. It is a one-day course that consists of live lectures, pre-recorded e-lectures, and practical sessions.
In the practical sessions, delegates will be divided into small groups of three and will use state-of-the-art ultrasound machines to perform focused POCUS exams on models, high-tech simulators, and clinical scenarios. They will also have the opportunity to practice peripheral vascular, central vein cannulation, and fascia iliaca block techniques.
At the end of the course, delegates will be able to:
- Perform a focused POCUS exam

- Apply POCUS findings to the clinical management of critically ill and trauma patients
