Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient (CCrISP) is a two-day interactive course, including mandatory pre-course eLearning, designed to equip you with the practical skills and knowledge necessary for managing surgical patients, particularly those who are deteriorating or at risk of deterioration.
Led by highly knowledgeable faculty from both surgical and anaesthetic specialties, the course provides a safe environment to develop practical, theoretical, and personal skills for systematically assessing and managing critical situations.
During the course, participants will learn to:
- Systematically and comprehensively assess critically ill surgical patients
- Recognise signs of deterioration in patients
- Identify high-risk patients and develop strategies to mitigate their risk
- Understand the diverse presentations of critical illness
- Prevent complications
- Acknowledge their role in multidisciplinary care for surgical patients
- Collaborate effectively with other members of the care team
- Support and communicate effectively with patients and their families
While CCrISP is relevant across all specialties, examples are predominantly drawn from general surgical cases.
The course is aimed at CT1 – CT2 trainees or equivalent SAS grades. Surgical Care Practitioners, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, and Advanced Critical Care Practitioners are also welcome to attend. All candidates should have experience in General Surgery at CT1 level or above.
Please note that FY trainees are not eligible for this course.
