March 3 All day

This course is designed for clinicians who manage patients within the first 24 hours of hospital attendance and who may encounter situations requiring legal consideration. These include issues such as consent, mental capacity or illness, and confidentiality. The course also covers legal processes related to litigation and HM Coroner inquests.
Join us for a one-day virtual interactive symposium, where we will explore relevant legal principles and hear from experts on how they navigate medico-legal challenges faced by healthcare professionals daily.
Who Should Attend?
The Medico-Legal Symposium is tailored for trainees and consultants in Emergency Medicine, Acute Medicine, and other specialties involved in the care of patients during their initial hospital presentation. This course is particularly relevant for clinicians working in acute settings who:

- Assess patients requiring evaluation of capacity, application of mental health assessments, safeguarding measures, or deprivation of liberty.

The symposium will be delivered by:
- A Consultant in Emergency Medicine and Deputy Medical Director of a large acute NHS Trust, with extensive experience in medical law.
- A Qualified Solicitor, Head of Legal Services for a large acute NHS Trust, specialising in Coronial Inquests, Civil Litigation, Mental Health Law, and Court of Protection Applications.
