In the first of a series of two virtual workshops, delegates will examine general aspects of consent, including:
- The legal, ethical, and professional dimensions of consent
- Practical applications such as accepting treatment, particularly those arising from the outcomes of the Paterson Inquiry, including ensuring patients have adequate time to reflect on their diagnosis and treatment options
- The assessment and examination of patients
- Consent within the context of holistic care
- Informed and valid consent, and the freedom of patients to make choices, with clear explanations provided to those opting for private treatment or receiving treatment in the independent sector funded by the NHS
The workshop will be led by MDDUS Medico-Legal Adviser Dr Myooran Nathan and Risk Adviser Alan Frame. It will feature a combination of directed tutorials, case studies, and break-out activities. This workshop is suitable for all doctors and physician associates.
This course has been accredited by the Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians for 2 CPD credits.
